How and why are grapevines pruned? Spur pruning Chardonnay.

How and why do grape growers prune their grapevines? Charlie Barra demonstrates spur-pruning on a 25 year old Chardonnay vine on his organic vineyard at Barra of Mendocino. This was shot on location at the Home Ranch of Barra of Mendocino in the winter of 2013.
