Wine Education 101: Juan Muga describes Mazuelo (Carignan)

What is Mazuelo? Mazuelo, aka Carignan, is a blending grape added to Rioja for acidity, according to Juan Muga of Bodegas Muga. Historically the white grape Viura was used but now that is illegal and Mazuelo has taken it’s place.
